5 balls 3 ply Fingering Yarn (1 oz. ball)
2 balls Angora (45 yards a ball)
1 pair S.P. knitting needles No. 2 (3 mm.) and No. 3 (3¼ mm.)
6 buttons
GAUGE: 7 sts. = 1 inch.
PATTERN: For Yoke
1st row: With No. 3 needles and fingering yarn, increase 1 st. in every st.
2nd row: P across
3rd row: K across
4th row: P across
5th row: K across
6th row: P across
7th row: Join angora and change to No. 2 needles K 2 sts. tog. across entire row.
8th, 9th and 10th row: K with angora on No. 2 needles. Repeat these 10 rows for pattern.
BACK: Cast on 88 (96) sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2¼ inch. Change to No. 3 needles and stock. st. Work even until the whole piece measures 9 (10½) inch. or any desired length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 5 (7) sts., at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts. (74 (78) sts. left). Start pattern for yoke. Work even for 5¼ (5¾) inch. from the first binding off. Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 4 (6) rows 11 (8) sts., rem. 30 sts. bind off for neck.
FRONT: Cast on 52 (56) sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2¼ inch., keeping the 6 center front sts. in garter st. for buttonhole-border throughout the entire front. Change to No. 3 needles and stock. st. With 52 (56) sts., work even until the whole piece measures like back to underarm. Bind off for armhole at seam edge 7 (9) sts. and at the beg. of the next 2 rows at seam edge 2 sts. (41 (43) sts. left). Start pattern for yoke as on back. Work even for 3¾ (4¼) inch. from the first binding off. Bind off for neck 13 sts. at center edge and then always 2 sts. at neck edge every other row until 22 (24) sts. are left over. Work as high as back and bind off for shoulder at armhole edge 11 (8) sts. 2 (3) times. Work other front to correspond and make 6 buttonholes in front border, starting first buttonhole after ½ inch. (To make a buttonhole: K2 sts., bind off 2 sts., work to end of row. On next row cast on 2 sts. over the 2 bound off sts.) Repeat buttonholes every 2 (2¼) inch. 5 times more.
SLEEVE: Cast on 46 (48) sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2 inch. Increase 4 sts. at even intervals across last row. Change to No. 3 needles and stock. st. Increase 1 st. at the beg. and at the end of every 6th row until 68 (74) sts. on needle. Work even until the entire sleeve measures 11½ (13) inch. Bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 3 (4) sts. Decrease 1 st. at the beg. of each row until 56 (62) sts. are left. Start yoke pattern. Decrease 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 4th row until 44 (50) sts. are left. Bind off 2 sts. at the beg. of each row until 28 sts. are left over. Bind off. Make other sleeve to correspond.
FINISHING: Sew up side, sleeve and shoulder seams and sew in sleeves, holding in extra fullness on top and matching the angora stripes. Right side facing you, pick up with No. 2 needles around neck 76 (84) sts. and K1, P1 for 7 rows. Bind off loosely, K as K and P as P and steam lightly. Sew on buttons.
