GAUGE: 7 sts = 1 inch, 8 rows = 1 inch

Cast on 100 stitches (sts) and work 4 rows in stockinette st (Knit [K] 1 row, Purl [P] 1 row). 5th ROW: K 1, * placing yarn from back to front yarn over (yo), K 2 together (tog), repeat from * across row ending with K 1, then work in stock­inette st (K 1 row, P 1 row) for ¾ inch ending with a P row. ** NEXT ROW: K 1, * yo twice, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row (increasing row). Working a st in each yo st continue in stockinette st for ½ inch ending with a P row. Repeat from ** twice. NEXT ROW: Repeat increasing row once. NEXT ROW: P across row. Work even in stockinette st for 1½ inches increasing 1 st in last row (501 sts). NEXT ROW: K 80 for half of Back, place next 85 sts on st holder for Sleeve, K 171 for Front, place next 85 sts on holder for other Sleeve, K across remaining 80 sts for other half of Back. NEXT ROW: P across 331 sts. NEXT ROW: K 2, * yo, sl 1, K 2 tog, pass slip st over K st (p.s.s.o.), yo, K 3, repeat from * across row ending last repeat with K 2. NEXT ROW: P across row. NEXT ROW: K 5, * yo, sl 1, K 2 tog, p.s.s.o., yo, K 3, repeat from * across row ending with K 5. NEXT ROW: P across row. Repeat last 4 rows for pattern until pattern section measures 10½ inches, then work in stockinette st for 1 inch ending with a P row. NEXT ROW: Repeat 5th row. NEXT ROW: P across row and work 1 inch more in stockinette st, bind off.

SLEEVES: Pick up sts from st holders and work in pattern for 2½ inches decreasing 20 sts in last row of pattern, then work a ½ inch hem same as lower edge of dress.

FINISHING:Sew hem around neckline, lower edge and sleeves. Sew sleeve seams and seam back of dress to end of pattern. Attach yarn on right side at neck edge of back opening and work 25 single crochet (sc) to separation, ch 1, turn. Work 2 more rows in sc, cut yarn. Attach yarn at lower edge of back opening on opposite side and work 25 sc, ch 1, turn. NEXT ROW: 1 sc in 1st sc, * ch 2, skip 2 sc, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sc, repeat from * 5 times (6 buttonholes). NEXT ROW: Work 1 sc in each sc, 2 sc in each ch 2 loop, cut yarn. Sew buttons in position. Lace and tie ribbon as illustrated.
