To Shape Armhole: Bind oft at the beginning of next row 4 (5, 6) sts. Decrease 1 st at armhole edge every other row until there remain 143 (145, 147) sts. Work without decreasing until piece measures from first row of armhole shaping, ending at front edge 7½ (8, 8½) inches. Next row: Purl 23 sts and place on stitch holder to be worked later for facing.
To Shape Neck: Bind off 66 sts, purl across. Bind off 3 sts at neck edge on next purl row. Decrease 1 st at neck edge every row 10 (11, 11) times.
At the Same Time
when piece measures from first row of armhole shaping 8½ (9, 9½) inches, ending at armhole edge, bind off at the beginning of next row 11 (12, 11) sts. Bind off at armhole edge every other row 10 (10, 11) sts 3 times.
Slip the 23 sts from stitch holder onto a No. 3 knitting needle, attach yarn and bind off 3 sts at neck edge on next row, decrease 1 st at neck edge every row 10 (11, 11) times. Bind off remaining 10 (9, 9) sts.
RIGHT FRONT ... Work as for Left Front, reversing shapings and making a set of buttonholes when piece measures 4 (4½, 5) inches from hemline and every 4 inches thereafter, until 3 sets of buttonholes in all are made — to make a set of buttonholes, with right side facing, k 6, bind off 4 sts, k 36, bind off 4 sts, k 12, bind off 4 sts, k 16, bind off 4 sts; on next row cast on 4 sts to replace each set of the 4 sts bound off.
SLEEVES ... Starting at cuff with No. 2 knitting needles, cast on 64 (68, 72) sts. Work in stockinette st for 7 rows. Next row: Knit across (hemline). Change to No. 3 knitting needles and work in pattern, increasing 1 st at both ends of every 7th row until there are on needle 116 (120, 124) sts. Work without increasing until piece measures from hemline 17 (17½, 18) inches.
To Shape Top: Bind off 4 sts at the beginning of next 2 rows. Decrease 1 st at both ends of every other row until 52 sts remain. Decrease 1 st at both ends of each row until 36 sts remain. Bind off 4 sts at the beginning of next 6 rows. Bind off remaining 12 sts.
COLLAR ... Starting at inside edge with No. 3 knitting needles, cast on 40 (42, 44) sts. Work in pattern for 2 rows. Cast on 10 sts at the beginning of next 8 rows. There are on needle 120 (122, 124) sts. Work without increasing until piece measures 2¼ inches from beginning, ending with a knit row. Next row: Knit across. Continue in pattern as before, until piece measures 3¾ inches in all. Bind off 10 sts at the beginning of next 8 rows. Bind off remaining sts.
Block to measurements. Sew side, shoulder and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves. Cut grosgrain ribbon to measure 33 (34½, 36) inches. With wrong side facing, sew ribbon to waist leaving 6 inches free at each end for facing. Turn facings to wrong side and sew in place, matching buttonholes. Sew buttonholes together in buttonhole st. Turn hem at lower edge and sew in place on wrong side. Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes. Turn hem of sleeves and sew in place on wrong side. Fold collar in half and sew narrow edges together. Sew on collar as illustrated.

Block to measurements. Sew up side seams, leaving 7 inches free at top of left side for zipper. Make a narrow hem on wrong side of zipper opening. Turn hem at lower edge and sew in place. Sew in zipper. With crochet hook make sl st around outer edges of belt. Sew ribbon to wrong side of belt. Turn narrow hem along top edge of belt and sew in place on wrong side. Sew on belt. Fasten belt with snap fasteners.
