Materials Required:
AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY
"DAWN" DE LUXE FINGERING YARN or "DAWN" NYLON
2 ounces Med. Blue or color of your choice
1 set each Double Pointed Knitting Needles No. 1 and No. 2 OR ANY SIZE NEEDLES WHICH WILL RESULT IN STITCH GAUGE BELOW

GAUGE FOR No. 2 NEEDLES: 8 sts = 1 inch

With No. 1 needles cast on 56 sts. Divide sts on 3 needles, 20 sts on 1 st 2 needles; 16 sts on 3rd needle, join. Place a marker at beg of each round. Work in K 1, P 1 ribbing for 3 inches. Change to No. 2 needles and work in stockinette st (K each round) for 8 rounds. NEXT ROUND: (Thumb Gusset) Work to within 3 sts of end of round, inc in next st, K 1, inc in next st. NEXT 2 ROUNDS: Work even. Repeat last 3 rounds working in same manner having 2 more sts between inc in thumb gusset until there are 21 sts in gusset. NEXT ROUND: Work to within 21 sts of end of round, place these 21 sts on a thread for thumb. Cast on 5 sts over thumb sts, join, then work even for 3½ inches from thumb opening or  1¼ inches less than desired length. NEXT ROUND: *K 4, K 2 tog, repeat from * 8 times ending with K 4. NEXT 4 ROUNDS: K even. NEXT ROUND: * K 3, K 2 tog, repeat from * 8 times ending with K 4. NEXT 4 ROUNDS: K even. NEXT ROUND: * K 2, K 2 tog, repeat from * all around. NEXT 3 ROUNDS: K even. NEXT ROUND: * K 1, K 2 tog, repeat from * all around ending with K 1. NEXT ROUND: K even. NEXT ROUND: * K 2 tog, repeat from * all around (11 sts remain), cut yarn leav­ing a length. Thread into needle and draw sts tog, fasten firmly. Darn in end. THUMB: Place 21 sts from thread on 2 needles, pick up and K 5 sts over cast on sts. NEXT ROUND: K even. NEXT ROUND: K even knitting 2 sts tog twice over the 5 picked up sts. Work even until thumb measures 2 inches from base. NEXT ROUND: * K 4, K 2 tog, repeat from * all around. NEXT ROUND: K even. NEXT ROUND: * K 3, K 2 tog, repeat from * all around. NEXT ROUND: K even. NEXT ROUND: * K 2, K 2 tog, repeat from * all around. NEXT ROUND: K even. NEXT ROUND: * K 2 tog, repeat from * all around (6 sts remain), cut yarn and finish same as top. Work other mitten in same manner reversing position of thumb.
