No. 3701WIND BREAKER—Starting at neck, with No. 3½ Needles cast on 91 sts.

Row 1—K. 4 sts., P. 83 sts., K. 4 sts.

Row 2—K. 17 sts. (front), increase 1 st. in each of the next 2 sts. (seam sts.), K. 8 sts. (sleeve), increase 1 st. in each of the next 2 sts. (seam sts.), K. 33 sts. (back), increase 1 st. in each of the next 2 sts. (seam sts.), K. 8 sts. (sleeve), increase 1 st. in each of the next 2 sts. (seam sts.), K. 17 sts. (front) (99 sts. on needle).

Row 3—K. 4, P. 91, K. 4.

Row 4—K. 18 (front), increase 1 st. in each of the next 2 sts., K. 10 (sleeve), increase 1 st. in each of the next 2 sts., K. 35 (back), increase 1 st. in each of the next 2 sts., K. 10 (sleeve), increase 1 st. in each of the next 2 sts., K. 18 (front).

Row 5—K. 4, P. 99, K. 4.

Row 6—K. 19, increase 1 st. in each of the next 2 sts., K. 12, increase 1 st. in each of the next 2 sts., K. 37, increase 1 st. in each of the next 2 sts., K. 12, increase 1 st. in each of the next 2 sts., K. 19.

Row 7—K. 4, P. 107, K. 4.

Continue to increase in this manner every other row, having 1 st. more in each front, 2 more in each sleeve and 2 more in back (8 sts. more on each increasing row), always knitting the first and last 4 sts. on purled rows.

When there are too many sts. to work on straight needles use Circular Needle, working back and forth until there are 34 increasing rows from start.

Now with straight needles work left front on first 54 sts. Work in Stockinette st., leaving remaining sts. on Circular Needle as stitch holder.

When work measures 4 inches from underarm work pocket as follows: K. 16, slip next 28 sts. on a stitch holder or thread for pocket, cast on 28 sts., K. 10, work even until front measures 10 inches from underarm, change to No. 1 steel needles and K. 1 st., P. 1 st., (ribbing) for 4 inches, bind off.

Work right front to correspond.

SLEEVES—On 76 sts. work 2 inches even, then decrease 1 st. each side every inch 8 times, work even until sleeve measures 18 inches or desired length from underarm. On next row K. every 5th and 6th st. together across row, then on No. 1 needles K. 1 st., P. 1 st., (ribbing) for 4 inches, bind off.

BACK—On remaining 103 sts., work even for 10 inches. Change to No. 1 needles and K. 1 st., P. 1 st., (ribbing) for 4 inches, bind off.

COLLAR—With steel needles, pick up 34 sts. across back. K. 1 st., P. 1 st., (ribbing) picking up 2 sts. at end of every row, (keep ribbing even) until all sts. around neck are picked up (about 86 sts.). With right side of work toward you P. 1 row (for turn of collar), then bind off 2 sts. at the beginning of every row until 34 sts. remain, bind off, fold and sew to inside of collar.

POCKETS—Pick up the 28 sts. from stitch holder and work in Stockinette st. for 4½ inches, bind off and sew to inside of Jacket.

FLAPS—With right side of work toward you, ¼ inch above pocket, pick up and K. 30 sts., work 1 inch even, then bind off 2 sts. at the beginning of every row. When flap measures 2 inches, bind off 4 center sts. for buttonhole.

On next row, cast on 4 sts. over those bound off. Continue to decrease until sts. are worked to a point.

Sew underarm seams. Sew 22 inch separating zipper in place.

No. 3701 AMITTENS—Cast on 52 sts., 18 on each of 2 needles, 16 on third needle, join.

K. 2 sts., P. 2 sts., (ribbing) for 3½ inches, decreasing 1 st. at end of last row. Slip 17 sts. on each needle and start thumb at beginning of row. K. 1 st., K. 2 sts. in next st., K. to within the last 2 sts. on the 3rd needle, K. 2 sts. in next st., K. 1. K. 1 row.

Next row K. 2, K. 2 sts. in next st., K. to within the last 3 sts. of 3rd needle, K. 2 sts. in next st., K. 2. K. 1 row.

Continue to increase in this manner for thumb every other row, until there are 24 sts. between increases, K. 1 row, now slip 24 thumb sts. on a thread. Cast on 10 sts. for gusset. K. 1 row. On next row, K. 2 sts. together at beginning and end of 10 cast on sts. (decreasing 2 sts.). Continue to decrease in this manner every row until there are 17 sts. on each needle.

K. for 3¼ inches even, then K. 2 sts. together at beginning and end of each needle. K. 1 row.

Continue to decrease in this manner every other row until 2 sts. remain on each needle, break yarn, leaving a 12 inch strand and with darning needle weave sts. together.

Pick up the 24 thumb sts. and 10 gusset sts. Put the 10 gusset sts. with 4 sts. each side on one needle (18 sts.), and put 8 sts. on each of the other 2 needles.

Decrease gusset in same manner as on hand. On remaining 24 sts. work 1½ inches, then decrease as for end of mitten.
