MATERIALS: Fleisher’s or Bear Brand Twin-Pak Knitting Worsted; or Fleisher’s or Bear Brand Twin-Pak Win-Knit, Color A, 2 (3-3) ozs. Bucilla Ever-Match Tapestry Wool, 1, 40-yd skein, Color B.

“Boye” Knitting Needles, 1 pair Size 3.
“Boye” Crochet Hook, Size E (2).

GAUGE—13 sts = 2 inches. 9 rows = 1 inch.

RIGHT MITTEN—Cuff—With B, cast on 40 (45-50) sts. K 4 rows garter st. Break off.

Row 1—right side—With A, k.

Row 2—* K 3, p 2; repeat from * to end.

Row 3—* K 2, p 3; repeat from * to end.

Repeat last 2 rows until 15 (17-19) rows of ribbing, end on wrong side.

Dec. row—* P 1, p 2 tog., k 2; repeat from * to end; 32 (36-40) sts. Work p 2, k 2 ribbing for 5 (7-9) rows.

Hand—Small Size Only—Row 1—K 2 tog., k 2, p 2, inc. 1 st in each of next 2 sts, k 4, p 2, k 17, inc. 1 st in last st; 34 sts.

(Medium Size Only—Row 1—K 4, p 2, inc. 1 st in each of next 2 sts, k 4, p 2, k 22; 38 sts.

Large Size Only—Row 1—Inc. 1 st in first st, k 3, p 2, inc. 1 st in each of next 2 sts, k 4, p 2, k 24, k 2 tog.; 42 sts.)

Row 2—P 19 (22-25), k 2, p 8, k 2, p 3 (4-5).

Row 3—K 3 (4-5), p 2, slip next 4 sts to crochet hook, hold at back, k next 4 sts, k 4 sts from hook—cable twist, work to end.

Row 4—Same as row 2. Work 2 rows even.

Row 7—Work 17 (19-21) sts, inc. 1 st in each of next 2 sts for thumb, work to end; 36 (40-44) sts.

Row 8—Work even.

Row 9—Work 17 (19-21) sts for back of hand, inc. 1 st in next st, k 2, inc. 1 st in next st, work to end; 38 (42-46) sts. Continue to inc. 2 sts every 2nd row 4 (5-6) times, always having same number of sts at each side and 2 sts more between incs. each time; repeating cable twist every 10th row. Work 1 row even after last inc. row, about 2 (2¼-2½) ins. above cuff; 46 (52-58) sts.

Dividing row—Work 18 (20-22) sts, slip on holder for back of hand, k 13 (15-17) sts for thumb, slip remaining sts on second holder for palm.

Thumb—P 1 row, k 1 row for 1¼ (1¾-2¼) ins., end with k row.

Dec. row—P 1, p 2 tog. 6 (7-8) times; 7 (8-9) sts. Break yarn, draw end twice through remaining sts. Sew edges of thumb tog. Take up sts of back of hand, join yarn, pick up and k 2 sts at base of thumb, take up and k palm sts; 35 (39-43) sts.

Hand—Work even until 3¾ (4¾-5¾) ins. above cuff, repeating cable twist every 10th row, end with a twist row, completing cables.

First dec. row—P 3, * p 2 tog., p 2; repeat from * to end; 27 (30-33) sts. K 1 row even.

2nd dec. row—* P 1, p 2 tog.; repeat from * to end; 18 (20-22) sts. K 1 row even.

3rd dec. row—P 2 tog. 9 (10-11) times. Break yarn draw end twice through remaining sts. Sew seam.

LEFT MITTEN—Cuff—With B, cast on 40 (45-50) sts. K 4 rows garter st. Break off.

Row 1—right side—With A, k.

Row 2—* P 2, k 3; repeat from * to end.

Row 3—* P 3, k 2; repeat from * to end.

Repeat last 2 rows until 15 (17-19) rows of ribbing, end on wrong side.

Row 3—K 19 (22-25) sts, p 2, work cable twist on next 8 sts, work to end. Work 3 rows even.

Row 7—K 14 (16-18) sts for palm, inc. 1 st in each of next 2 sts for thumb, work to end. Work to correspond to right mitten up to dividing row.

Dividing row—K 15 (17-19) sts, slip on holder for palm. K 13 (15-17) sts for thumb, slip remaining sts on 2nd holder for back. Finish to correspond to right mitten. Sew seam. Steam.
