GAUGE: 9½ sts measure 1 inch; 16 rows (8 ridges) measure 1 inch.

   Starting at corner, cast on 3 sts. 1st row: K 1, (k 1, p 1) in each of next 2 sts (5 sts). 2nd, 4th and 6th rows: K across. 3rd row: K 2, (k 1, p 1) in each of next 2 sts, k 1 (7 sts). 5th row: K 3, (k 1, p 1) in each of next 2 sts, k 2 (9 sts). 7th row: (K 1, p 1) twice; O, k 1, O, (p 1, k 1) twice (11 sts). 8th row: (K 1, p 1) twice; k 3, (p 1, k 1) twice. 9th row: (K 1, p 1) twice; O, k 3, O, (p 1, k 1) twice (13 sts). 10th row: (K 1, p 1) twice; k 5, (p 1, k 1) twice. 11th row: (K 1, p 1) twice; O, k across to last 4 sts, O, (p 1, k 1) twice. 12th row: (K 1, p 1) twice; k across to last 4 sts, (p 1, k 1) twice. Repeat 11th and 12th rows alternately until there are 119 sts between borders. Next row: K 1, p 1, k 1, p 2 tog, O, k 2 tog, k across to last 7 sts, k 2 tog, O, p 2 tog, k 1, p 1, k 1. Following row: (K 1, p 1) twice; k across to last 4 sts, (p 1, k 1) twice. Repeat last 2 rows until 13 sts remain.
