MATERIAL:

3 balls Sport yarn 1st c.c. (2 oz. ball)
2 balls Sport yarn 2nd c.c. (2 oz. ball)
1 ball Sport yarn 3rd c.c. (2 oz. ball)
1 circular knitting needle 29 inch. No.5

GAUGE: 6 sts. = 1 inch

With 1st c.c. and No. 5 circular needle cast on 384 sts. and work back and forth in pattern:

1st row: K across row

2nd row: K across row

3rd row: * K 2, P 2 repeat from * across row end P 2

4th row: * K 2, P 2 repeat from * across row end P 2

5th row: * P 2, K 2 repeat from * across row end K 2

6th row: * P 2, K 2 repeat from * across row end K 2

Repeat pattern from 3rd to 6th row inclusive until piece measures 3 inch. Break yarn and attach 3rd c.c.

Work in pattern as follows:

1st row: K across row

2nd row: K across row

3rd row: * K 2 tog., y.o. repeat from * across row

4th row: K across row

Repeat these 4 rows once more. Break yarn. Attach 2nd c.c. and work in pattern as 1st c.c. for 3 inch. Break yarn. Attach 3rd c.c. and work 8 rows as worked before in this color. Continue to work this way alternating 3 inch stripes of 1st c.c. and 2nd c.c. with 8 rows of 3rd c.c. in between each stripe until stole is 20 inch. wide and has 3 stripes of 1st c.c. and 2 stripes of 2nd c.c. Bind off loosely.

FRINGE:

Wind yarn over an 4 inch cardboard, cut at one end. Knot 6 strands in every 3rd stitch color for color on both short ends of stole. Trim fringe evenly and steam lightly.
