Requirements:
13-1 oz. balls Pompadour Yarn
1 pr. size 5 Steel or Aluminum Needles
1 Double-pointed Needle

Gauge: 6 sts to 1 inch. 9 rows to 1 inch.

PATTERN STITCH: (a multiple of 18 sts plus 16)

Row 1: K 2, * K 2 together, yarn over, K 6, K 2 together, yarn over, K 2. Make a cable as follows: Slip next 3 sts to double pointed needle and hold at FRONT of work, K next 3 sts then K the 3 sts from the double pointed needle. Repeat from * across row ending with K 2 together, yarn over, K 6, K 2 together, yarn over K 4.

Row 2: K 2, * P 2 together, yarn over, P 6, P 2 together, yarn over, P 5, cast on 3 sts, P 3. Repeat from * across row ending with P 2 together, yarn over, P 6, P 2 together, yarn over, P 2, K 2 (3 sts added to each cable pattern) .

Row 3: K 2, * K 2 together, yarn over, K 6, K 2 together, yarn over, K 5 (yarn over, K 1) twice, yarn over, K 4. Repeat from * across row ending with K 2 together, yarn over, K 6, K 2 together, yarn over. K 4 (3 sts added to each cable pattern).

Row 4: K 2, * P 2 together, yarn over, P 6, P 2 together, yarn over, P 14. Repeat from * across row ending with P 2 together, yarn over, P 6, P 2 together, yarn over, P 2, K 2.

Row 5: K 2, * K 2 together, yarn over, K 6, K 2 together, yarn over, K 5, (yarn over, slip 1, K 1, PSSO) 3 times, K 3. Repeat from * across row ending with K 2 together, yarn over, K 6, K 2 together, yarn over K 4.

Row 6: Same as Row 4.

Row 7: K 2, * K 2 together, yarn over, K 6, K 2 together, yarn over, K 6, (yarn over, slip 1, K 1, PSSO) twice, K 4. Repeat from * across row ending with K 2 together, yarn over, K 6, K 2 together, yarn over, K 4.

Row 8: Same as Row 4.

Repeat Rows 5 through 8 about 8 more times or until 4½ inches above the cable, ending with Row 7.

Next Row: (Row 40): K 2, * P 2 together, yarn over, P 6, P 2 together, yarn over, P 5, P 3 together twice, pass first 3-together over last 3-together, P 2 together, P 1. Repeat from * across row ending with P 2 together, yarn over, P 6, P 2 together, yarn over, P 2, K 2 (6 sts decreased in each cable pattern). Repeat these 40 rows for pattern.

With size 5 needles, cast on 122 sts. Work in garter stitch (K every row) for 3 rows. Work in pattern until stole measures about 68 inches ending with Row 1.

Work in garter stitch for 3 rows. Bind off.

FINISHING: Press lightly.

Tassels: (Make 10) Wind yarn around an 8-inch card 50 times. Tie tightly at one end. Cut windings at opposite end. Wind a strand tightly around tassel ½ inch below knot. Attach a tassel to center of each cable.
