EMBROIDERY … Trace chart for embroidery onto tissue paper, and baste to center front of sock, 1" below ribbing. With a blunt-pointed needle, work embroidery in satin, outline and cross stitches, using odds and ends of Red, Yellow and Green yarn.
SOLE … Use slipper sole for pattern, and trace outline onto Red felt. Cut 1 piece, allowing ¼" all around for seam. Cut a strip of felt 1" wide, of sufficient length to go completely around sole, allowing l" for back seam. Sew this strip around edge of 1st piece with back stitch, making a ¼" seam. Turn and press seam lightly. Place this piece over the wool side of the slipper sole, having edge of strip extend over the leather side of sole, and pin. Sew back seam, then sew back and forth across the leather part of sole, catching the edges of felt strip. Depth of sole should measure about ½". Place this felt-covered sole on felt, and cut sole piece ¼" larger all around than covered sole. Turn in ¼" all around this 2nd felt sole piece, and pin. Then press lightly.
Place this 2nd felt sole piece against leather part of slipper sole, and sew securely to felt, around edges of slipper sole. With a long strand of black, or any solid color yarn, work fagotting stitch around edge of sole, catching upper and lower felt sole pieces together.
Press sock through damp cloth with hot iron. Pin and sew sole of sock to top of felt-covered slipper sole.
