Materials:
Chadwick's Red Heart Knitting Worsted, 11 skeins (1¼ oz. skeins) of main color, and 1 skein each of 2 contrasting colors (1 light and 1 dark).
Milward's Casein knitting pins, 1 pair No. 4 (3½ mm. size).

Gauge: 6 sts make 1 inch; 7 rows make 1 inch.

Back. Starting at bottom, cast on 79 sts. 1st row: * K 2, p 3. Repeat from * 6 more times, k 2, p 5 (this is center rib), ** k 2, p 3. Repeat from ** 6 more times, k 2. 2nd row: * P 2, k 3. Repeat from * 6 more times, p 2, k 5 (center rib). ** p 2, k 3. Repeat from ** 6 more times, p 2. These 2 rows constitute the pattern. Repeat these 2 rows until piece measures 5 inches. Then inc. 1 st at both ends of one row every ½ inch until piece measures 10 inches (99 sts).

To Shape Armholes: Bind off 5 sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Then dec. 1 st at both ends of each row 5 times (79 sts). Work straight until piece measures 2¼ inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. On each of the following rows, change 1 st at each side of center p rib into a p st (thus forming yoke) until piece measures 7¼ inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. To shape shoulders, bind off 3 sts at the beginning of each row until 37 sts remain. Bind off.

Front. Starting at bottom, cast on 99 sts. 1st row: * K 2, p 3. Repeat from * 8 more times, k 2, p 5, ** k 2, p 3. Repeat from ** 8 more times, k 2. 2nd row: * P 2, k 3. Repeat from * 8 more times, p 2, k 5, ** p 2, k 3. Repeat from ** 8 more times, p 2. These 2 rows constitute the pattern. Repeat these 2 rows for 5 inches. Then, inc. 1 st at both ends of next row and every 1½ inches thereafter until there are 109 sts on needle. Hereafter, work straight until piece measures 11½ inches.

To Shape Armholes: Bind off 6 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows and 3 sts at beginning of each of following 2 rows. On next row and every 3rd row thereafter, change the 2 sts at each side of center p rib into p sts (thus forming yoke), at the same time decreasing the last st of each row until 79 sts remain. Continuing with yoke shaping, work straight until piece measures 6 inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. Then, on next row, work across 1st 33 sts, bind off 13 sts (thus starting neck shaping), work across remaining 33 sts. Hereafter work over these 33 sts, decreasing 1 st at neck edge each row until piece measures 7¼ inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. To shape shoulder, starting at armhole edge, bind off 3 sts every other row, at the same time decreasing 1 st at neck edge every 3rd row until all sts are bound off. Break off. Attach yarn at opposite side of neck edge and work to correspond. Sew up shoulder seams.

Neck Band. With right side of work toward you, pick up 80 sts all around neck edge and work in ribbing of k 3, p 2, for 4½ inches. Bind off loosely.

Sleeves. Starting at bottom, cast on 39 sts. 1st row: * K 2, p 3. Repeat from * 2 more times, k 2, p 5, ** k 2, p 3. Repeat from ** 2 more times, k 2. 2nd row: * P 2, k 3. Repeat from * 2 more times, p 2, k 5, ** p 2, k 3. Repeat from ** 2 more times, p 2. These 2 rows constitute the pattern. Repeat these 2 rows for 3 inches, then inc. 1 st at both ends of one row every inch until piece measures 5 inches (43 sts). Next row: With right side of work toward you, p 3, k 1, * p 3, k 2. Repeat from * 2 more times, p 5, ** k 2, p 3. Repeat from ** 2 more times, k 1, p 3. 2nd row: K 4, * k 3, p 2. Repeat from * 2 more times, k 5, ** p 2, k 3. Repeat from ** 2 more times, k 4. Work in this manner, thus changing 1 st at both ends of rib pattern into stockinette st, until all sts are changed to stockinette st and increasing 1 st on both ends of every inch until piece measures 17 inches (67 sts). To shape top of sleeve, bind off 5 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows. Then dec. 1 st at both ends of every 3rd row until 41 sts remain. Then bind off 2 sts at beginning of each row until 13 sts remain. Bind off. Sew up underarm seams, easing in extra fullness of Front 1½ inches down from armhole shaping. Sew up side seams, sew up sleeve seams, and sew sleeves in.

Embroidery. With contrasting colors work embroidery in satin stitch, as indicated in stitch detail, and alternating the colors.
