1¼ oz. Skeins.

White 13 Skeins.
Blue 3 Skeins.
Cardinal 1 Skein.

Sizes 42 to 44
14 Skeins.
4 Skeins.
2 Skeins.

1 Pair Bone Knitting Needles No. 5—14 inches long.
1 Pair Bone Knitting Needles No. 6—14 inches long.
1 set Double Pointed Knitting Needles No. 4 or 5.

Gauge: 5 sts = 1 inch.

Directions are given for size 38 to 40—large size is given in brackets. To knit in two colors leave an end about 4 inches long to be fastened when sweater is completed. Each square of design represents one st. Carry the yarn not being used loosely in back of work twisting yarns every few sts to prevent long loops.

Back. With White on No. 5 Needles cast on 100 sts (110) and work in ribbing of k 2, p 2 for 3½ inches increasing in the last row to 109 sts (119). Change to No. 6 needles and continue work in stockinette st (k 1 row, p 1 row). Work even in White (the allover design is worked later), until back measures about 15 (15½) inches from the beginning ending with a purl row. Then work 2 rows in Cardinal, 2 rows White, 2 rows Blue, 2 rows White, 2 rows Cardinal. Next 2 rows in White, bind off 4 sts (6) at the beginning of each row. Next row start the pattern following chart. In the larger size the added sts of pattern are worked in Blue.
Decrease 1 st at the beginning of next 8 rows (10); then continue even. After the design is completed, work 2 rows White, 2 rows Cardinal, 2 rows White, 2 rows Blue, 2 rows White, 2 rows Cardinal, continue in White until armhole measures 9 inches (9½) from the 1st decreasing point.
Next 2 rows. Bind off 15 sts at the beginning of each row.
Next 2 rows. Bind off 14 sts (15) at the beginning of each row, and slip remaining sts on a stitch holder for back of neck.
Front. Work same as back until armhole measures about 7½ inches from the 1st decreasing point.
Next Row. Work across 32 sts (33), place next 29 sts (31) on a stitch holder. On the first 32 sts (33), decrease 1 st at neck edge every other row 3 times. Work even until armhole measures same as back armhole. Bind off shoulder same as back shoulder. Complete other side to correspond.
Sleeves. With White on No. 5 needles cast on 48 sts (52) and work in ribbing of k 2, p 2 for 5 inches increasing 8 sts in the last row. Change to No. 6 needles and continue in stockinette st. Increase 1 st each side every inch 11 times (12), then increase 1 more stitch, 79 sts (85). Work even until sleeve measures 18 inches (19) from the beginning, then work 2 rows Cardinal, 2 rows White, 2 rows Blue, 2 rows White, 2 rows Cardinal.
Next 2 Rows. With White, bind off 4 sts at the beginning of each row. Start pattern decreasing 1 st at the beginning of each row, then work stripe pattern. Complete sleeve in White, continuing to decrease 1 st at beginning of each row until 37 sts remain. Bind off 3 sts at the beginning of each row until 19 sts remain, bind off.
With Blue, embroider all over rain drop pattern on all sections of sweater, starting 1st pattern in the center of the 6th row from 1st stripe as follows: Work 2 sts over a knitted st following the slant of the knitted st forming a V, then work 2 more sts in same manner in row below. Work patterns 11 sts apart. Work a 2nd row of patterns in 12th row from stripes, placing raindrop in center st between 1st row of rain drops. Continue in same manner as illustrated.
Block each piece to correct measurements Sew shoulder seams. On 3 double pointed needles pick up the sts from st holders and 12 sts on each side of neck and work in ribbing of k 2, p 2 for 1 inch, bind off loosely. Sew seams and sew in sleeves matching pattern.
