MATERIAL:
3 (3-4) skeins Sport Yarn, Orlon Sayelle or Wintuk Sport Yarn (2 oz. skein)
1 pair knitting needles each No. 2 and No. 4
6 (6-7) buttons

GAUGE: 6 sts. = 1 inch

BACK:
Cast on 66 (70-76) sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2 inch. (all sizes). Incr. 3 sts. (all sizes) at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 4 needles and stock, st. With 69 (73-79) sts. work even until the entire piece measures 8 (9-10) inch. or any des. length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 3 (4-5) sts., at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts. (all sizes) (59 (61-65) sts. left.) Start seed st. yoke:
1st row right side: K29 (30-32), P1, K29 (30-32)
2nd row wrong side: P28 (29-31), K1, P1, K1, P28, (29-31)
3rd row: K27 (28-30), P1, K1, P1, K1, P1, K27 (28-30)
4th row: P26 (27-29), K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, P26 (27-29)
Cont. this way working 2 sts. more in seed st. every row and 1 st. less in stock, st. each side every row until all sts. are worked in seed st. Work even for 5½ (5¾-6¼) inch. from the first binding off. Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 6 (4-4) rows 6 (10-11) sts., rem. 23 (21-21) sts. bind off for neck.
NOTE: For boys work buttonholes in left front border.
For girls work buttonholes in right front border.

RIGHT FRONT:
Cast on 41 (45-47) sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2 inch. (all sizes), keeping the 7 center front sts. in seed st. for buttonhole border through­out the entire front. Incr. 2 (0-2) sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 4 needles and stock, st. With 43 (45-49) sts. work even until the entire piece measures like back to underarm. Bind off at armhole edge at the beg. of the next row 4 (5-5) sts. and at the beg. of the next 2 (1-2) rows at same edge 2 sts. (all sizes) (35 (38-40) sts. left). Start seed st. yoke:
1st row right side: Work 7 sts. seed st., P1, K27 (30-32)
2nd row wrong side: P26 (29-31), K1, P1, work 7 sts. seed st.
3rd row: Work 7 sts. seed st., P1, K1, P1, K25 (28-30)
4th row: P24 (27-29), K1, P1, K1, P1, work 7 sts. seed st.
Cont. this way working 1 st. more in seed st. every row and 1 st. less in stock, st. every row until all sts. are worked in seed st. Work even for 3 (3¼-3¾) inch. from the first binding off. Bind off for neck 11 (10-12) sts. at neck edge and then 2 sts. at same edge every other row until 18 (20-22) sts. are left over. Work as high as back and bind off for shoulder at armhole edge 6 (10-11) sts. 3 (2-2) times.

LEFT FRONT:
Work as Right Front reversing all shapings. Work 6 (6-7) buttonholes evenly spaced apart in front border, placing first buttonhole ½ inch from beg. and last one 2 rows below neckline. (To make a buttonhole: K1, P1, bind off 2 sts., work to end of row. On next row cast on 2 sts. over the 2 bound off sts. of previous row.)

SLEEVE:
Cast on 36 (40-42) sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2 inch. Incr. 3 (3-5) sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 4 needles and stock, st. Incr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 6th row until 53 (57-63) sts. are on needle. Work even until the entire sleeve measures 8½ (9½-10½) inch. or any des. length to underarm. Bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 4 (5-5) sts. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. of each row until cap measures 2 (2¼-2¾) inch. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 4th row twice (all sizes). Bind off 2 sts. at the beg. of the next 4 rows (all sizes). Bind off rem. sts. Work the other sleeve to correspond.

FINISHING:
Sew up side, shoulder and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves. Neckband: Right side facing you pick up with No. 2 needles 70 (74-78) sts. around the neck and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 5 (5-7) rows keeping the 7 sts. on each end of needle in seed st. as established on borders. P 1 row for hemline, work 5 (5-7) more rows as before and bind off. Fold neckband in half and sew to wrong side. Sew buttons in place and block to size.
