PATTERN—(Multiple of 6 plus 2).
Row 1—* P. 2, K. 4, repeat from * across row, ending P. 2.
Row 2—* K. 2, P. 4, repeat from * across row, ending K. 2.
Row 3—P. 2, * yarn in back, insert needle between 4th and 5th st. (from *) draw up a loop, K. the 4 sts., slip top strand of loop over needle, P. 2, repeat from * across row ending P. 2.
Row 4—Same as Row 2.
Row 5—K. 3, * P. 2, K. 4, repeat from * across row ending P. 2, K. 3.
Row 6—P. 3, * K. 2, P. 4, repeat from * across row ending K. 2, P. 3.
Row 7—K. 3, repeat from * to * of Row 3 across row, ending P. 2, K. 3.
Row 8—Same as-Row 6.
Repeat these 8 rows for pattern. The entire jacket and the skirt are worked in this pattern with Modeen and No. 2 Steel Needles.
JACKET: Back—Cast on 110 sts. Work 1 inch even. Increase 1 st. each side, then increase 1 st. each side every ½ inch 9 times, then every ¼ inch 6 times. When work measures 7½ inches from start, bind off 8 sts. each side once, then decrease 1 st. each side every other row 11 times.
When work measures 7½ inches straight up from the bound off sts. at underarm, bind off 7 sts. at the beginning of each of the next 10 rows. Bind off remaining 34 sts. for back of neck.
Right Front—Cast on 3 sts. Work increases on front edge and side edge at the same time as follows: On front edge * increase 1 st. every row 2 times, work 1 row even, repeat from * 10 more times.
On side edge increase 1 st. every row 14 times, then cast on 5 sts. 2 times, 6 sts. 2 times, then 7 sts. once. Increase 1 st. at side edge every ½ inch 10 times, then every ¼ inch 6 times.
At the same time, when work measures 4 inches from start (about ½ inch above last increase on front edge), working from front edge, work over 6 sts., bind off 4 sts. (buttonhole), work across row. Next row cast on 4 sts. over the bound off sts. Work a buttonhole in this manner on this edge every 2½ inches 5 more times.
At the same time, when work measures 5 inches from start, working from front edge, work over 24 sts., bind off 24 sts. (pocket), work across row. Next row cast on 24 sts. over the bound off sts.
When work measures 7½ inches straight up from the last cast on sts. at side edge, bind off 8 sts. at side edge, then decrease 1 st. every other row 15 times (61 sts. on needle).
When work measures 7 inches straight up from the bound off sts. at underarm (½ inch above last buttonhole) bind off 16 sts. from front edge, decrease 1 st. at neck edge every row 6 times, then every other row 4 times.
At the same time, when work measures 7½ inches straight up from the bound off sts. at underarm, bind off 7 sts. from armhole edge every other row 5 times.
Left Front—Work to correspond to Right Front, omitting buttonholes.
Sleeves—Cast on 62 sts. and increase 1 st. each side every inch 16 times. When work measures 18 inches from start, bind off 8 sts. at the beginning of each of the next 2 rows. Decrease 1 st. each side every other row 19 times, then 1 st. each side every row 12 times. Bind off remaining 16 sts.
Sew shoulder seams, sew sleeves in place, sew underarm and sleeve seams. Work 1 row S. C. around all edges.
Pick up 24 cast on sts. at pocket and work even in pattern for 3 inches, bind off. Sew in place.
SKIRT—(Skirt is started at waist).
Back—Cast on 110 sts. Work ½ inch even, then increase 1 st. each side. Increase 1 st. each side every ½ inch 17 times, then every inch 15 times. Work 7 inches even (skirt measures 31 inches), bind off.
Front—Cast on 122 sts. and work 1 inch even. Increase 1 st. each side then increase 1 st. each side every ½ inch 8 times.
Next row work over 14 sts., drop yarn, place 112 sts. on a thread, attach yarn from another ball to last 14 sts. and work across these. Working on these 2 pieces from separate balls of yarn, increase 1 st. on outside edges only, every ½ inch 8 times, then every inch 15 times. Work 7 inches even, bind off.
Pick up 32 sts. from st. holder, attach yarn, and decrease 1 st. each side every other row 4 times, then decrease 1 st. each side every row 12 times (all sts. have been worked off).
Pick up 32 sts. from other end of st. holder (leaving 48 sts. in center) and work exactly the same.
Pick up the center 48 sts. and work even for 26 inches, bind off.
Panel (Make 2): Starting at bottom, cast on 56 sts. and decrease 1 st. each side every 3 inches 8 times. On row after last decreases, work over 20 sts., place remaining 20 sts. on st. holder. Working on first 20 sts. decrease 1 st. at inside edge every row 20 times. Pick up the 20 sts. from st. holder, attach yarn, work in same manner.
Sew side seams. Work 1 row S. C. along the straight edges and around points of front piece of skirt. Set panels in place having edges under these edges of S. C. Work 2 rows S. C. around bottom of skirt, work beading at top for elastic.
BLOUSE—The blouse is made in Featherdown. The main part of the blouse is made in same pattern as suit.
Back—With No. 2 Steel Needles, cast on 110 sts. and work even in ribbing (K. 1, P. 1) for 3 inches. Change to pattern and M. M. No. 3½ Needles and increase 1 st. each side every ½ inch 12 times. When work measures 11 inches from start, bind off 8 sts. at the beginning of each of the next 2 rows, then decrease 1 st. each side every other row 9 times. (100 sts. on needle).
When work measures 3 inches above bound off sts. at underarm work over 50 sts. and place remaining 50 sts. on st. holder. Work even on these 50 sts. for 4 inches, then bind off 8 sts. from armhole edge every other row 4 times. Bind off remaining sts. Attach yarn to other 50 sts. and work in same manner.
Front—With No. 2 Steel Needles cast on 122 sts. and work in ribbing (K. 1, P. 1) for 3 inches. Change to pattern and No. 3½ Needles and increase 1 st. each side every inch 2 times, then every ½ inch 10 times. When work measures 12 inches from start, bind off 8 sts. at the beginning of each of the next 2 rows, then decrease 1 st. each side every other row 15 times. When work measures 5½ inches straight up from the bound off sts. at underarm, work over 42 sts., bind off 16 sts., and working on last 42 sts., decrease 1 st. at neck edge every row 10 times.
When work measures 7 inches straight up from the bound off sts. at underarm, bind off 8 sts. from armhole edge every other row 4 times. Attach yarn to other 42 sts. and work in same manner.
Sleeves—With No. 2 Steel Needles cast on 56 sts. and work in ribbing (K. 1, P. 1) for 3 inches. Increase 1 st. each side, change to pattern and No. 3½ Needles and increase 1 st. each side every ¾ inch 19 times.
When work measures 18 inches from start, bind off 8 sts. at the beginning of each of the next 2 rows. Decrease 1 st. each side every other row 8 times, then every row 24 times. Bind off remaining sts. Sew shoulder seams, sew sleeves in place, sew underarm and sleeve seams. Crochet edges of back opening, working loops for buttons on right back.
Beginning at back opening with No. 2 Steel Needles pick up 120 sts. around neck and work in ribbing (K. 1, P. 1) for 3 inches. Bind off.
