IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The instructions for the original designs in this volume have been written for the standard size 16.

The charts on this page illustrate the standard measure­ments for size 16, using a plain blouse as an example.

If your own measurements are not those of the standard size 16, increase or decrease the number of stitches as nec­essary at any line of measurement that needs adjusting to your size.

This adjusting of measurements before you begin your work will insure a proper fit and save you much time in working.

The Minerva Knitting Manual, Volume #44, explains in detail how to chart a design to your individual measure­ments, and how to "Knit to Fit" from this chart. A wealth of other useful information is presented within the pages of this Manual.

BLOCKING A NEW GARMENT

Pin the Blouse, wrong side out, on a pressing board in exactly the lines you wish to retain. Using a damp cloth and moderately hot iron, press lightly, allowing the steam to go through the garment. Lay it on a flat surface until thoroughly dry. The skirt may be blocked in the same manner or on a Minerva Skirt Blocker which has been adjusted to the proper measurements.

DRY CLEANING

We advise Dry Cleaning garments made of all Rayon yarns to retain the original stability and character of the yarn and garment.

WASHING AND BLOCKING

Knitted or crocheted garments, other than those made of all Rayon, have a tendency to stretch or shrink due to the workmanship and materials used. A tightly worked garment will shrink and a loosely worked or lacy garment will stretch. If the garment fits you perfectly, measure it carefully or trace a pattern of it on a piece of heavy paper, so that it can be re-blocked to the same size. Remove all fastenings or detachable trimmings.

Make suds in lukewarm water, using mild soap flakes, containing no alkali. Wash by squeezing the suds through and through the fabric. Do not rub. Handle gently and do not lift out of the water, because the weight of the wet garment will stretch the yarn. Keep the garment supported by the hands when squeezing out the water. If the fabric is badly soiled use several clean suds.

Rinse thoroughly three times in lukewarm water. Squeeze out as much water as possible and roll in dry Turkish towels to absorb all excess moisture.

Push the garment into shape, wrong side out on the paper outline, or according to measurements. Place tissue paper in sleeves and body of garment and pin to the paper outline with rustproof pins. Rib­bing at cuffs or bottom should be eased in and not pinned, so that it will fit as snugly as when new. We also recommend the use of the Minerva Skirt Blocker which is adjustable.

Knitted wear should never be dried in the sun or in excessive heat. A good current of air will hasten the drying. When the garment is dry take out the pins and shake gently. If necessary to re­move pin marks or wrinkles, press like a new garment.

Minerva Vicuna and Minerva Fuzette or similar yarns require extra care in washing. Handle them as little as possible to prevent matting and shake gently to restore fluffiness before they are thoroughly dry. Do not press with an iron.

BUY ENOUGH

Be sure you BUY ENOUGH YARNS OF THE SAME LOT NUMBER to complete your garment. It is impossible to dye two lots of yarn to exactly the same shade, and in the time that elapses between your first and second purchases, your dealer may have exhausted his first lot.

NEEDLE GAUGE

It is most important that the correct size needles called for in all directions are used.
