Jack Frost Willow Yarn—1 2-oz. Skein or
Jack Frost Knitting Worsted—1 4-oz. Skein

RIGHT MITTEN: With Willow Yarn or double strands of Knit­ting Worsted, cast on 23 sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 2½ in. K 1 row decreasing to 20 sts. P 1 row, then start thumb gussets as follows: Row 1—K 9, increase 1 st in each of next 2 sts, K 9. Row 2—K 10, P 2, K 10. Row 3—K 9, increase 1 st in next st, K 2, increase 1 st in next st, K 9. Row 4—Purl. Row 5—K 9, increase 1 st in next st, K 4, increase 1 st in next st, K 9. Row 6—Purl. Row 7—K 9, increase 1 st in next st, K 6, increase 1 st in next st, K 9. Row 8—K 10; place on st-holder, P 8 (thumb sts), place remaining 10 sts on 2nd st-holder. K 1 row, P 1 row, on the 8 thumb sts for 6 rows, then decrease as follows: Row 1—K 2 tog., K 3, K 2 tog., K 1. Row 2—Purl. Row 3—K 2 tog. across row. Draw remaining sts tog., and fasten off. Sew thumb seam.
   Place sts from first st-holder to Needle; attach yarn and pick up 2 sts at base of thumb. Place sts from 2nd st-holder to left hand Needle and K them. Work in pattern as follows: * K 1 row, P 1 row, for 5 rows; K 1 row on P side; repeat from * until piece measures 2½ in. from base of thumb (5 ridges), then decrease tip of mitten as follows: Row 1 (right side)—K 2, * K 2 tog., K 3; repeat from * across row. Row 2—Purl. Row 3—* K 3, K 2 tog.; repeat from * across row ending K 3. Row 4—Purl. Row 5—K 1, then K 2 tog. across row. Row 6—P 2 tog. across row. Draw remaining sts tog. and fasten off. Sew side seam.
LEFT MITTEN: Work as given for right mitten.
